What did your chickens do today?

My chickens watched people tv as I sat there watching chicken tv. I considered renaming Fred "Pavarotti" with all the singing he was doing. My youngest daughter picked figs, but they weren't ripe, so she split each in half and tossed em in. Turns out she enjoys watching football on chicken tv. Lots of tackles and fumbles. Then the two little ones spotted a dragonfly. It looked like they were on an invisible see-saw, one going up as the other comes down. I laughed so hard, my coffee came out my nose a little. My snorting and coughing commotion upset Fred, who then tried to spur me through the fence. The ladies must've assumed Fred was getting another treat, because they stampeded and bowled him over. We ended our morning visit when Fred began an encore performance of his serenading. With a morning like that, it has to be a good day!

I have a question. Why would Lucy all of a sudden start laying her egg in random places around the house/yard? For about two weeks she used her box. Now she has put it on the couch a couple times, the driver seat of my husbands car, the seat to the lawnmower and we couldn't find yesterday's but it turned up on the bale of straw they slept on last night. It's like an Easter egg hunt. Who knows where it will be today? Lol

Wow! She really is all over the page. I have one Hen, 14yrs old that has layed randomly, but usually sticks to one place until I find them and then goes back to her Coop...that's funny! I call Madonna our Rogue Hen...very independent..

I've read some of your posts about Madonna lol she's amazing! And quite a trooper! I hope I can still talk about my chickens at the ripe old age of 14!

Today was a day of firsts for my 4 girls. They're about 10 weeks now. They had their first tomato hornworms. My BSL was the only one to brave the full worms and managed down a couple smaller ones. The other girls were actually afraid of the larger worms and would jump when they wiggled. I chopped them up and they were eventually eaten. They also got their first monthly check up for mites and all that. They were not pleased. They've been in the coop/run for a few weeks now and wanted to make sure they were getting off to a good start. So far all is clear. I checked backs, wings and bums.

My head hen has taken on the roo role and checked all around the coop before heading in for the night...she is the smallest.
