i have no idea... im sitting here trying to figure it out. if i figure it out I will let you know but for now you might want to have someone else awnser your question. i wish it would say like... _______ teaspoons for 55 gallons not half package. because i dont know how much is in the package.

hahaha you sound like what I have been running through my head for three days. It's a 4 oz. package. Math was never my strong point. Thank you so much for trying though.

This afternoon I went out to sit with our small, young flock. I have 2 of each breed: Buff O's, RIR, Easter Eggers and Plymouth Barred Rock. And, yes, my breeds do love to hang together. So my sweet Barred Rock rooster, Sparrow(15 weeks) was sitting on my lap and the hen, Henri Beaker (11 weeks), the other BR joined us on my same knee. All was peaceful as I petted them, Sparrow had just started 'purring'. Very calmly, Henri leaned over and pinched Sparrow's comb, HARD! He squawked and jumped down to continue his nap at my feet. Henri, the bossy little thing, scooted over closer to me and looked real proud of herself.

I went to take a pic of my pullet on the kids swing ... And hank( who turned out to be hankette) had to get in the pic too

I need a little help. I'm bad a chicken math, so... It's good to assume normal math is a challenge as well.

I purchased a package of Vitamins & Electrolytes so I could get my feathered kids a little something extra with it being so darn hot. I'm having trouble working the math out to fix four gallons. Here's the instructions on the outside of the 4 oz. package.

For drinking water: Dissolve 1/2 package in 55 gallons or 1 package in 110. Always mix fresh solutions daily.

I obviously can't find a food grade barrel and mix it all and store it. I feel like a moron because I can't get this worked out on my own.

I don't know how you will measure it or weigh it, but here is what I figured - you are dealing with a very small amount of the powder for 4 gallons. Must be pretty potent stuff to only mix 4 oz with 110 gallons of water...

You state the directions are: 4 oz for 110 gallons.
4/110 = .036 oz/gallon or for 4 gallons you multiply .036 x4 = .145 oz per 4 gallons, which is <1/4 of an ounce of the powder. 1/4 oz would be .25, so about 1/8 of an ounce for 4 gallons. .145 + .145 = .29, which is pretty close to .25. Have someone double check this before you do it!! I don't think the ounces are convertible to tsp (or less) in this case.

Anyone - please correct my math if I'm wrong! Guess you could measure it teaspoon by teaspoon and see how many there are in the 4 oz package and then you have a dry weight measure rather than ounces.

Thank you so much!! Your calculations are correct. I also posted on an Australorp thread I'm active in and got the same weight from one of the members there. I happen to have a small digital scale! I'm so excited everyone has been so helpful and I can now give my babies something good for them.

They plowed a field today and there were two HUGE chicken hawks floating around over it so I put Pigpen n Lucy on lockdown. They were NOT happy, but I'd rather them be mad at me than 'poof' gone like poor Pookie :( At least I know they will still be here tomorrow. Stupid chicken hawks...

Thanks

It looks like I am doing a lot of what is in there but I may need to hold Wy a bit longer next time so he learns the point. Tonight he pecked a little and then ran because he knew I was going to catch him and discipline him... and he was right lol.
Any luck with your rooster? I have been packing Pigpen around under my arm and holding his head down like that one thread said to do. I think it's worked cuz I did it three times yesterday and today he just followed me around and didn't go after my feet once. I have bruises all over the tops of my feet from that little sh@# lol He's fast!

LibRat and John, would either of you know why my rooster would be trying to mount one of my 10-week-old BA? I didn't think they gained that kind of interest in a pullet until she's older. You both have been so very helpful before, so I thought maybe you would know what I should do.
