What diseases can ducks catch from chickens?

i am about to cull my whole flock of chickens because they have a CRD going around and there is no way i can treat them all forever. The medicine isnt helping. I really dont want to cull the ducks but Do ducks catch diseases like CRD? Is there any need to cull them?

If treatment isnt helping you need to look at some other possible stress factors in the flock. Can you separate the sick from the well birds before culling them all? If not- dont forgot to totally clean and sterile the coop and areas they frequent to avoid the next chickens you get also becoming ill.

Ducks can suffer from respiratory problems, but being hardier than chickens- they are less likely to be effected.

Over in the goose thread there has been a post about a gander who caught Mycoplasma gallisepticum from being housed with chickens.
What duckyfromz said is correct separate sick from those showing no symptoms. And I wish you the best in dealing with this. By the way the gander is recovering.

Ducks and geese can get Mycoplasma gallisepticum from chickens when kept in the same coop but the chances of them getting any respiratory diseases from them when not cooped with them is small. What are you treating your chickens with. If and when which is rare my chickens get something I use Tylan 500 along with VetRX on the beaks, combs and wattles and on the feet of chickens being treated. I use ACV w/mother in the water also. My chickens always got well. I am no longer treating to produce resistance in my flocks.

I am experiencing the opposite. I have brooded baby chicks at least 7+ times. Never lost a baby animal in my life. Until duckling happened. I fell in love with first one, these two fear me but absolutely adore em. What the hell am I doing wrong here if they’re hardier than chickens and I’m unable to keep them alive through baby stage. Flock is pretty healthy, unless they’re too hot I haven’t had any chicken health issues. Incubated, hatched, raised to adult chicken. Is breaking my heart that I’ve watched a baby duckling die in my home now I’ve got one that can’t breathe. I did not anticipate this. I was super attached to the very first and it may have imprinted on my son it always followed Him, he was out of sight duckling cries.

Don’t have the brand of feed on me I know it’s one of the organic ones I picked up at TSC for duckling start grower. I will look for the bag here shortly. I also use organic chick starter, I do have pampered chicken mama brewers yeast. Set up is like the classic chick set up metal brooder, I have a heat plate if ambient temps are not appropriate at night. Pelleted pine at base, top with shavings but they just get too messy for chicks/ducks usually. I haven’t needed supplemental heat this round because it’s been warm enough outside and in the shed the ambient temps appropriate. I do have a plate in there if it was needed I brought in last night because it was too cold. REST method in bathtub 2 nights. Video is below.

There’s a couple pictures of them outside. There’s usually a pan for them to dunk and splash in a couple water dishes, various food dishes for both chicks and the ducks. During the day in KY temps between 78-90 and cool off at night. I’ll add some Brooder photos for what I have done for chickens and these ducks. I just don’t have a good one prior to bringing them in with my ducks right now. It is adjusted it for the duckies.
