This sounds more like a joint infection ---best course of action would be penecillin INJECTIONS. But lets see the pic.......

great thank you I will get my husbend to help me post this picture and wow I did a number on my wrist could not type for a while. the chicken now moves the joint it is no longer swollen and it tries to walk but falls on it. it shakes the joint like crazy looks like it is doing exersizes :O I have gotten so attached now I really want to save it. I so wish I had extra funds to take it in.

here is a picture of the joint as you can see it is not swollen anymore. I am trying to down load one that shows how it holds the leg sticking out to the side funny. I hope this posts right...

It sounds like it is just sprained. I have a peacock who hurt her leg awhile back and she couldn't walk on it, used her wings for balance, it was swollen and hot, etc. for almost 6 weeks. It literally took that long for it to heal enough for her to walk on it. I know it was sprained because I had x rays done on her just to make sure it wasn't broken because it was taking forever to heal. So if it's sprained, it'll just take a little bit longer to heal.

you can see here how it holds that leg out to the side really odd. this has been just lately that it has done this and now it shakes that leg like crazy and still when it tries to walk or move it falls forward. I am going to go down and try to get it to eat again becuse it is so thin does this help at all? I am getting so attached to it and now I am more worried than ever I will have to have it put down..

gosh it would be great if it was only sprained I am going to just keep spoiling it with goodies trying to get it to eat and such. I hope it gets better. why does it hold the foot at such a strange angle?

oh no that sounds scary, some are and some are not. I got some from the hatchery and they were but got this one from a farm store and it is not why?
