what do I do for winter???? PICS ADDED

Ok, here's some pics of the new coop. It's not finished, but we worked our butts off the last three days. My b/f works a crazy schedule and was off on Wed & Thurs, and took Fri off so we could get it done. We still have more to do..........

See for yourselves:

here's my men ready to get building. (I couldn't resist showing off my 2yr old in his construction gear!

Here's the frame, as you can see they have virtually no protection from the elements looking at what they stay in now. (behind the frame)

Here's the finished product as of today. We will cut out about a 3x2ft window for ventilation above the chicken door, and on the two sides opposite the doors there will be nest boxes accessible from the outside. And of course there will be a ramp and platform for the chickens to reach their door.

I'll post more pictures in the future, but his schedule is crazy and we're going to have to do a little everyday until his next couple of days off.

I want to put a large window on the side above the chicken door with a flap so I can close it up for the winter and open it up for the summer (you know how hot it gets here in the summer in Texas!)

Then we're going to mount nest boxes from the two sides opposite the doors with access from the outside. Then just mount roosts on the inside, fill it with bedding and we're done!

I'm so glad my b/f decided that building the coop would make me happy, and in turn then he can be happy!!!!

While building though, I couldn't resist talking about building a bigger one next spring. Of course I got the evil eye!!!!
