Do not worry about warm chickens, worry about dry chickens and a wind break. They keep themselves warm. People want to insulate and trap the heat, and what they really trap is moisture.
I do two small black rubber bowls. Any sunny day, I turn the ice block upside down, and the black rubber will warm enough the ice falls out by the next day. I only have to stomp if it is cloudy.
I do have horses, I might try the idea above.
