What do I do, my duck's alone now...

Well Hartford is not that far about an hour and a half. If you are up for meeting half way I can probably drive at least 45 minutes in your direction

oh that would be completely wonderful!! a friend for toby would make me and him sooo happy. i'm definitely interested, just gotta work out some kinks like extraaaa safety.

yes work out the protection then send me a PM I am going to the chicken meat up in Stamford on Sunday it should be fun its farther for you to travel but if you wanted we could meet there.

Take pics of your housing and where the predator got in and we can suggest how to make it safer. electric fencing is great if you can get some help putting it up.

I will get some fresh pics of the 2 I have they are pretty much the same so I cant really tell one over the other so basically the easiest to catch you can have. You are also welcome to come and check out what I have (got some young silkies available) but you have to wear freshly washed cloths and be willing to spray your shoes with lysol.

thank you soooooo much!
and i talked to some friends of mine that run duck rescues, and they gave me some advice on how to fix the pen. we've been making it stronger and stronger, but the dang killer found away underneath, so they gave me a plan for a digging predator barrier. i'll be running to home depot and buying some small gage sturdy wire. then my friends and i will dig a trench about a foot down and two feet out. then line it with the wire and fill it back in. once that is done, the pen and house should be completely secure.
it is so very nice of you to offer me one of our ducks, i am sincerly grateful. thank youuuu!!

digging it in is a great way to prevent diggers but you can also do an apron, in other words put it at least 24 inches (or more) out from the bottom of the pen. You can staple it down with lawn staples (They look like a big metal U and come in 50 and 100 packs just hit in with a mallut) This will save a lot of time digging into the ground. use the 1/2 inch harware cloth and yopu are good to go. I will try to find a pic. Oh and in one season the grass and plants will grow right over it so you will never see it, or you can quicken it by sprinkling dirt and grass seed ontop.

you are my hero! thank youuuuuuu!!!

no problem I learned it from people on BYC

but make yours a bit wider than mine is, mine is the minimum and I have had rats dig under it so I would go out 2 1/2 feet or more

but Real predators tend to dig right at the base which is why they dont dig under somehow the rat is much smarter than they are.
