Ok so I have a baby chick that was born atleast an hour ago and the mother didn't wanna lay on it to keep it warm after it chirping so many times and once I saw it I got scared for it but I sat there and watched to see if the others would adopt it but after I waited a minute I thought one of the others was going to adopt it but they didn't and all they did was peck it so I took it from the coop and brought it in and I have it in a basket rn with a heat lamp but idk what else to do???

Hey my chick got attacked by another hen. All u can do is bring them in with a heat lamp some chick crumb and some water with honey or electrytes in. Warmth is the major thing put some bedding down and a towel or something xxx

Just curious why you thought a different bird would take it in. Try putting it back under the mother's wing. They won't get up oftentimes during lock down to protect the other eggs
Well I have always been told that in the wild that most animals would try and adopt a different animal if the mother left it alone so that's what I thought the others would do but now ik I was wrong and would never try it with any others

Dont worry its all a learning curve but another hen will probs think the chick is an intruder xx

Chickens don't really conform to that-the right combination of hormones will make them want to sit on eggs and raise chicks. Any that aren't doing that will just peck at the fluffy 'intruder'. Try putting it back under it's mother. If she doesn't accept it, get it set up in a brooder with a heat source, food, and water.

That is what I did but I didn't put crumbs or water in because I was told by my grandpa that they don't eat or drink for two days atleast but it's able to get it's head up and it chirps and opens it's eyes very well so it should be fine until then but if I need to I will thanks for the help

Better to have it out just in case. Good luck!

For the chick, it'll definitely need food and water if mom doen't accept it back. As well as athe reliable heat source. Without heat, chicks can die in less then an hour. You will need to check on the chick a lot to be sure the mom is letting it warm up under her. If your hen is a new mom she may not know how toto take care of the chick properly. And, not all hens are going to be good moms, some just aren't cut out for it.
