What do i do with this loco dog?!

I was going to say something similar. She is a working dog. She needs to be kept in the pasture or barn with her animal friends.

And you are very blessed she rolls over to show her belly. She could have been a fear nipper, but rather is submissively fearful. That is much better.

Your positive re-enforcement training technique is a great idea. Fearful dogs only train via positive methods.

ok..so this thinking is wrong..putting her outside and ignoreing her wont help at all...of course she can be in the house !! she needs training and work...the hiking will help..balls or agility would be great for her...she is at that age, they tend to drive you crazy anyway...find a good trainer, one that can help with OB and some agility work..will do wonders for her...probably wont settle her down much, but she will be more controlable and will listen to you..could also train her to go on bike rides with you..

Just because a dog is outside does not mean it is gonna be ignored have you ever had a border collie? they are a handful I was simply saying if they have a border collie it needs to be put to work

yes..I have had several.and collies and shelties and many aussies..I used to train herding dogs for actual work and show,,not setting around the house and looking pretty..and even if you meant to say have it outside AND work it..you didnt say that so all I got out of your answer was to "leave it outside"..all I am replying to is what I read..

My lab ate everything in sight until she was about a year and a half old. SHe actually ATE our sofa. Seriously. At least 4 or 5 pairs of converse all-stars, the corner of my boxspring....I could go on and on and on

Get yourself a kong toy, fill it with peanut butter and other treats, and she'll spend hours on it. You may have to crate train the dog though to prevent more things from getting ruined.

My border was the same when I got him at about the same age. Keep up with the clicker. Learning that way does work off some of the energy. Put that nose to work. One of my guys favorite things is using his nose. We use a training kong with a scent pad. I go out and make a track and hide the toy. Then send him out to find it. Once they get the hang of it, it gets pretty fun to try and outsmart them. Your lab would probably enjoy it too. My golden does.

The stories I could tell about destruction. Picture a tree in a 2 gallon pot on top of the TV. Now picture all the soil covering the entire room. It does get better.

LOL once we came down to find our black lab Hwin had torn open a flour bag that was on the kitchen counter ...EVERYTHING WAS WHITE, she was no longer black, she was white, and the dogs were walking o big fat pads of white flour stuck to their feet. We were finding flour everywhere for months afterwards.

Imagine a really, really bad day at work.

You get home and all you want to do is get dinner and go to bed and forget this day ever happened.

You come in, and the first thing you see is the presents from under the christmas tree, strewn across the lounge room floor and half unwrapped.

You walk into the hallway and find a bread crumb trail of goat berries

Get to the kitchen and you find all the pieces of fruit spilled on the floor, with one bite out of each of them.

Walk into the kitchen a bit further and find a 5.2 gallon drum of honey spilled all over the kitchen floor, spread from one end to the other

Walk out the back door into the back yard to find one very sticky but very very happy Angora wether ...

I know this may sound weird here, but..the border i had was one of the best dogs i ever have had. She never chewed a thing up on me..learned commands SO easy i felt like ceaser milan..

Keeping the border collie in the house or out of the house is not really the issue. The issue is that where ever they are they need interaction frequently and something to do. If you are around doing chores, taking care of animals, and the dog has things to do outside then they do good outside. If you play with your dog a lot inside, take them to dog parks, and do agility with them then they do good inside. They just need something to do no matter whether that job can be accomplished outdoors or indoors. I do agility classes with my akita and many there have border collies they keep even in apartments with no problems because they spend every evening running their energy off them at the dog park, doing agility classes, and then all weekend every weekend doing agility at competitions. If you stick a border collie outside with nothing to do and no one to interact with they will be just as bad as if you confine them inside. The indoor/outdoor argument is pointless. It all comes down to the situation and what the dog is doing.

Currently this dog is doing nothing. You are not providing her with what she needs. She sounds like a completely normal typical border collie pup. I'm temporarily taking care of one about 5months old. My boyfriend had never had herding breeds and calls her psycho puppy. I said she's pretty calm for a border collie. He then told me I am never to get a herding breed ever.

They need to be doing something majority of the day or they will be completely psychotic and destructive.

While you are gone a kong time dispenser might help. You put kong toys filled with various stuffings (there are recipes all over online or you can even just use their normal dog food) into a plastic wheel. It turns and at preset time intervals dumps out a kong. The dog chases down the kong, chews the stuffing out of it, and about then another one pops out. Keeps destructive dogs busy for at least part of the day and you can run the kongs through the dishwasher and refill them for the next day. Many keep several prefilled and frozen in the freezer.

There was a very good video somewhere of someone that kept a very hyper dog from eating her house while she was gone all day by using the kong dispenser. I can't seem to find it though. I will ask the dog forum if someone knows where that link was.

Getting someone to let them out for exercise while you are gone would be another good option but might require paying someone or paying for doggy daycare. If I had to leave Zami more than 5hours every day I would pay for doggy daycare. I also would not have gotten her as a puppy.

Ditto on the border mix. I had a border collie/pit. BEST dog I ever had. I grew up with danes, which are the sweetest goofballs ever. My border/pit was even sweeter than them. He LIVED to please me, and I swear he spoke english. He was just such a joy, and i could take him anywhere. He usually had a big, fenced yard, but I would walk him daily anyway, and play with him throughout the day. I did take him with me, of course, when i moved into an apt. my job was right up the street, so i'd walk him right before i left, then come home at lunch and walk him (we lived right on the greenbelt, it was awesome), then walk him again right when i got home, then walk him again right before i went to bed. so, yeah, i always kept him busy.
best dog ever, i haven't gotten another one yet, because he's just irreplacable, and i got so spoiled by him!!
