What makes a good exhibition birds, mainly oeg bantams, being that you're a judge? I mean if you can give away tips or secrets i would gladly appreciate it.

I feed Kent Multiflock as a base, and bump to protein up for some of our breeds with the Kent high protein feed. They get a small handfull of Purina kitten chow for molting and before a show. I feed a small amount of greens (cabbage, broccoli, spinach, clover from the yard, and sometimes sweet potato peels and ends) to the birds that don't get out to forage--you don't want to overdo the greens though. During breeding season they get a vitamin mix in their water once a week.

Sweet Potato! That's a miracle food. Polynesians would keep their fowl alive for months at time on the seas with just sweet potato and fish scales. In Peru and Chile all their fowl would eat on long trips up and down the Andes was sweet potato, quinoa and sometimes blue corn. I don't exhibit show birds, nor do I use Mazuri. Here's a few photos of some of my birds that are fed Farmers's Helper Ultrakibble and Foragecakes:

The last photo shows a farmers helper babycake hanging up and the older birds love them too. Gives them a real glossy shine.

There are no secrets, there's a Standard Of Perfection that describes in detail what each breed & variety should look like. A judge evaluates birds against this Standard & in comparison with other birds in the class to determine placings.
If you're interested in showing owning a Standard is the place to start.

resolution we live near a river and could catch a large number of minnows everyday. how many is to many to feed in a day?

I feed my Silkies and OEGBs Purina Flock Raiser Sunfresh Recipe. I have noticed a marked difference in their feathers and activity level. They also just seem happier. I also feed it to broody hens and to chicks.

I have heard a lot of good things about Kent feed when it comes to exhibition poultry, whether it is about breeding or showing them. I just can't get it down here in Texas. It must be a northern or northeastern thing.

I feed:

1/2 layer crumbles and 1/2 chick starter. 1 cup of BOSS. I may also throw some oats in there for good measure as a treat. Chicks are fed on chick starter until 9 weeks old, then they get switched to 1/2 and 1/2 mixture. No oats for them until at least 5 months old.

At the shows, I will switch the chick starter to medicated chick starter because their digestive tracts may get stressed, which would allow any cocci to take over.

The two chicks that just hatched are on gamebird feed. So far, I'm not impressed, but we will see.
