I have a pekin hen and a runner drake. For entertainment can't beat my runner. He's sooo funny. He throws tantrums, stomps his feet and in general acts like a toddler.
My Pekin is a sweetheart. Can't beat her for cuddles and all around sweetness.
She's loud though. Like ridiculously loud. Fortunately my neighbors don't mind, as long as I slip them an egg or two once in awhile.
Mine had a fenced in pen. one end has river rocks(the big smooth ones, not the rough ones used in driveways) and their blue kiddie pool. The center was grass all summer, now mud. The other end is packed dirt with a wood roof, and under that is their dogloo dog house, that is nothing more than an awesome nest.
They love to free range and act as exterminators in my yard, you should see them chasing flies.
Peas are named duck crack in our house. They are that addictive. We also have some type of weed they adore, I don't know what it is, it hasn't killed them yet.
Mine eat chicken food. and scratch. cracked corn. cat food when they find it.
predators aren't so much a concern here. Squirrels and sparrows are the biggest
