What do they say in your neck of the woods?

"geat yet" (did you eat yet) -- "yont to" (do you want to) -- And for the people from up north, down here (in my neck of the woods) hot dogs are called weenies. We ran into a fellow while on vacation and we were talking about things we like to do and when it was my turn, I told him that I like to roast weenies, and no joke, I thought he was gonna choke with laughter. Come to find out he was from NY. and had never heard a hot dog called a weenie.

Here in CT we eat grinders too. But it's a water fountain not a bubblah (that's in RI!) We're a small state so we do get influenced by our neighbors NY, MA and RI. I was born of Upstate NY parents and got teased mercilessly (I kid you not) because I said Cyoopon not Coopon, for those pieces of paper you cut out to save you money at the grocery store, which was a food store to our friend from PA. My grandparents upstate called it a supermarket.
We drink soda and eat lollipops. Called my pocketbook a purse at work one day and had a girl working there break into fits of laughter and call me Grandma for months because she though it was so old fashioned. I couldn't convince her it was regional. I sit on my couch which can also be called a sofa. My granmother near Rochester NY called it a davenport. We eat lunch midday and use supper and dinner almost interchangeably. The dogs always eat supper though. Never realized that 'til now. Hmmmm..... will ponder that all night now I'm sure! Love bah hah bah too!

I've lived in Virginia most of my life...

For our family it's:

Breakfast
Lunch
Dinner

We usually say Soda or Coke (regardless of what soda it is - doh!)

Gyro's (pronounced "year-os") instead of hoagies

You get sweet tea unless you asked for unsweet!

And when I lived in Knoxville, TN for a year or two during high school way back when... instead of "skipping school" they called it "laying out"... that carried over with me to Virginia.

Shopping carts are just that, and not buggies (unless we're in TN).

We definitely use "Ya'll", and "Fixin".
