I've ordered thes these before and in my experience they sent me Easter Egger roosters. They were scrawny meat birds.

The cost to feed 200 roosters to market weight, butchering time, and the time it takes to raise them. $50.00 is a fraction of what you will pay when it's all said and done.

Go with the broilers if your looking for a bargin. They are for sure the best bang for your buck.

There is a hatchery in NE called Central Hatchery... they have broilers for $0.65 / 100

Look at it this way 500 pounds of meat in 8 weeks with the broilers that cost $65.00

Or... 600-700 lbs of meat in 16 weeks, that cost $50.00

Not to mention you will have no crowing, and half of the birds to raise.

Those surplus chicks are no bargain at all. You will be raising them for the better part of the year and butcher them to get a 3 lb carcass. When you raise the Cornish X, educate yourself first on the best way to raise them, and you will have a 3.5 lb. frier in 42 days. Best of luck.

i think im going to try yhe broilers form Central Hatchery 65cents and like $10 shipping for a 100 sounds good we are still going to use then tractors we are building 2 of them each will house 50

I think 100 birds would be a lot to raise the first time.

we are raiseing over 100 chickens now, now we are setting some up for breeding and we have some for eggs .we sell some of the eggs too. we also are feeding 11 people here on the farm.

I know this looks like a good deal but really these offers are a good way for the hatchery to get rid of their overstock of roosters.Everybody wants a bunch of hens for eggs but how many roosters do you need,this is why they have these offers.If it's just for fun and you don't mind processing a few roosters at a time to make a meal by all means go for it.But if you are looking for a deal,you are doing them a bigger favor than they are doing for you.
My very first batch of birds was a rooster special (25).I bought in to the dual purpose idea,from the stuff I read for beginners.I did it just to learn a little from the different breeds,it was fun and the kids got a kick out of it.We got a few hens out of it by mistake that we kept for eggs.When I got the birds back from the processor I couldn't believe how scrawny they were.They were good eatin' but it took a few to make a meal.
We keep hens around for fun,but we stick to the true meat birds to fill our freezer. Will

thanks for the tips thats why i came here to ask lots of good tips. this will be our first meat chickens i fell we will be prepared for a 100 of them, i figure we should order them mid march temps are up by then any sugetions on when to order them.
