I'm still not a fan of red / gold / buff / tan / brown chickens --- whether they have feathers on their necks or not.
edited to add: Wise choice Kevin! Sorry to hear you are down-sizing. Would you like to introduce some blue/splash Frizz green-egger NN to your group?

When I first started to think about getting chickens, I looked at the hatchery sites to see what types of chickens I might like. I found the NN and thought they were the nastiest things in the world.

I ordered from Ideal Hatchery and requested they mark any roosters that might be sent as packing peanuts. Their idea? Send NN roosters, that should be easy to tell the difference.

They grew on me and I ended up keeping one even after thinking I would never have a rooster. His name? Freezer!

I have several and am still up in the air about whether they are staying or not.

I think they are very fun to look at (Dipsy your frizzle NN are fantastic!)

But they seem to be instegators of pecking. When introducing new birds to the flock, they are the first to go and peck at them. This I don't like.

They still have some time to go before they lay so I can't remark on egg size or quantity.

They seemed to grow fast right off the bat but have slowed down some. I am not sure if they are done growing or not.

I haven't been able to tell the Roos from the pullets because I am not sure what the combs and wattles are supposed to look like. Most of mine have some of both.

Has anyone processed theirs and how is the meat? Do they dress out nicely?

I've never owned a naked neck. Back home in Wales the farmers used to swear by them. Reputedly their naked necks were great layers, good foragers, good for meat, calm broodies & good mothers. In other words ideal for a farm bird.

Dipsy, your birds look amazing.
