What do y’all think here?

Hi there friends! Our Cayuga and Pekin ducks are giving us eggs! Praise the Lord!! I can’t tell if this egg is fertilized though. The Cayuga drake is active, but I’ve never seen the Pekin drake mating with his females. The Pekin eggs don’t exactly look fertile, and the Cayugas do, but I have never looked at eggs to see or not, so I don’t know what to look for!! I have heard the term bullseye thrown around, but I don’t really know what that means and I would be happy to listen if anyone would like to explain! The four with the yellows not busted are Pekin eggs, while the busted yellow (is it still a yolk in duck eggs?) is the Cayuga's!

It is slightly difficult for me to see exactly,, because of the light, and reflections,, but I am including a pix for you to compare yourself.

The difference is slight,, but if you view your closely, you may be able to make a better call.

I agree with you that the Cayuga egg is fertile and rest are not. In duck eggs it seems like it is more about the size of the dot than trying to make out a bullseye. Good chance you will get fertile Pekin eggs come spring. The drakes hormones are down this time of year (my girls are rejoicing over that).

The difference is so hard to tell, when I first seen your pictures I thought “both fertile!!” Then I read it and thought.... “orrr maybe not?” Lord’s Willing, I will try to inspect them a little better! If it is fertile, she isn’t sitting on them. I’ve read that they want like a dozen in a “clutch?” before they’ll sit... is that true?

Oh, okay!! It is definitely a bigger dot than the Pekin eggs! Lord’s Willing, that is something to look forward to with them!!! I’m glad for your girls!! I would guess then that our Pekin girls are not looking quite as happily towards the spring then as we are!

Perkins are unlikely to sit eggs. If you want to hatch you may need an incubator.

Okay! The Cayuga is the one currently with fertile eggs, what about them?
