What do y'all do with all the chicks you hatch?

Thanks for all the info! I will have to look into livestock auctions here. If there's not any in Knoxville I'm sure there are some in the surrounding counties.

Thanks shady glade--- They were in the incubator without the turner for approx. 24 hours,. They were 2 day old eggs, that I was turning until my incubator became available for more eggs... Do you think this will affect the hatching....

I have filled the bator 3 times and kept about 10 total chicks and have sold all other chicks the first day they were put on CL

. Now I have repeat customers from those hatches that are requesting custom hatches....out of this set of 42, 30 of them are already spoken for.

I haven't even had to think about bringing them to auction, but that is an option.

Good luck....hatching is the greatest thing in the world...I am totally hooked.

As far as I have found...selling them as pullets or roosters seems easiest.

I put an ad on CL for pullets and roosters, sexed already, and had them ALL gone the same day (over 50 chickens!)...including ALL the roosters!

I did the same thing with straight run...and sold a handful.

If people know what they're getting they are more confident about it. Some folks want eggs, some folks want meat/guards...and prolly fighting ones, but I do NOT sell the roos like that. Theres a big population for that kind of thing out here, though, and I am merely acknowledging it.

I have an old man down the road who gets first pick of my roos...he LOVES eating them, and I usually have some pretty ones for his fly-tying hobby, too.

I have not been able to sell eggs yet...my chichkies only JUST started laying on Easter, and today I have five eggs so far when usually I was getting 1 or two!

My lazy chickes are getting ready for their egg-laying machine lifestyle! YAY!

I WILL be selling eggs, just not quite yet. Once they start laying more than I can eat a day, then we're golden.
