What do y'all keep your oyster shell & grit in?

I got 10 lb of oyster shell and dumped it in a big round metal pan. It's there for them whenever they want it. When it runs out I'll fill it up again. Their run is sand and they range the yard for several hours a day scratching and pecking. Now I'm wondering if I need to buy grit for them also?

You did a really good job with those! I have baby pig feeders that are almost the same as yours that I have reused for oyster shell. I use the rabbit feeders for shell in the smaller runs.

I do the same, but not because I thought it through. I left a bag out once, and they tore into it. I thought "Hey, now that's easy" and haven't looked back.

Same here! Tried to keep the bag closed and the chickens kept ripping it open and helping themselves, so I just let nature happen. That is my favorite flock management rule....let nature happen.

I got these containers meant for minerals for goats I think. Got them at TSC they have 3 holes for screws and I screwed them into coop behind waterer station elevated but not so much the bantams cannot get them. I have one for each coop, seems to work well. I think they were 6.99 which wasn't bad because it works so well, doesn't tip. They have two bins per container, I put grit in one oyster shell in the other.

I KEEP my grit and oyster shells in a two compartment dog bowl, one side grit one side oyster sheels, they did not seem to eat it just got dirty so I HAVE BEEN ADDING IT IN THEIR FOOD, mixxing it in. IS THIS A GOOD MIDEA OR NOT COMMENTS PLEASE, BECAUSE MY HENS ARE NOT LAYING, BUT i justb added light to extend the day to 14 hoursa I ADDED a 15 watt light bulb comments please thanks

I just got 2 of those things that go under flower pots to keep the water from dripping onto the windowsill.
Like a clay saucer. They find everything I put in the yard.

I don't know if they need it, they range all day and the eggs (one or more just started to lay this past weekend)
have shells that could hammer nails. But what the heck. I let them decide.
