What do ya'll know about Beagles? 40 Free pupppies From Animal Testing

With allergies you can't even always just go by breed. It can vary per the individual dog. My husband has allergies. He's extremely allergic to cats and birds and to a lesser extent dogs. We have three smooth Dachshunds. He is more allergic to one of them than the other two. But overall he has much less reaction to any of them than he does to some other breeds, like his favorite - Golden Retrievers. Our one dog that he is more allergic to has to actually get up in his face to cause any reaction, but he doesn't have any problem with the others.

I disagree with the statement that Beagles aren't good with kids though. I've not yet met one that was *bad* with kids. Of course I'm sure there are Beagles that aren't good with kids, but I don't think it is an overall breed characteristic. I love Beagles, but then I've lived with Dachshunds all my life and am used to the stubborn streak and the barking. I had a Collie once and I really didn't like having a "push button" dog all that much. I missed the challenge. To each his own.

I have seen many a friendly child safe beagle myself. My neighbor had one years ago when their kids were small and that dog never left their side. They are scent dogs though and will bolt and keep going to chase that scent.
As with many breeds it all starts with training. And they do have that houndy bark/howl. But I have seen some very cute friendly well trained ones.

I have a beagle she is the best in the world she does not poop or pee in the house she rings a bell when she needs to go out side. My dog has never had a mean side to her. she is a heating blanket she sleeps on my feet and keeps them warm in the winter. she is the best dog. she never barks unless somone is driving up the driveway. I would highly suggest getting one.

If you want a Hypo-allergic, go with a pot belly pig they are smarter than beagles, and just as cute.

If you want to know about a breed of dog, consider the purpose/job that the breed was originally created for. That will give you a start. Of course, there will always be individual variation.

We (meaning humanity), have mostly done a very good job selecting for certain traits and instincts when creating dog breeds.

What makes a good scent hound? Strong nose, strong drive to follow said nose, good loud bay, good digger, energy and endurance to follow a scent trail across the countryside for hours if necessary, etc.

I have 3 beagles, Chester, Festus and Miss Kitty. They are the best dogs, very good with kids. I have a 4 year old grandson who opens their mouth and looks at their teeth, looks in their ears, sits on them..( when he was younger) I would recommend beagles to anyone. They are so smart. Ours are housebroken, and ring a bell too when they want to go outside. They do tricks, and will come when called, except when they smell a rabbit..! They each have their own distinct "Bay" and it is funny to listen to. They are good watch dogs, and usually fall asleep on my husbands lap, all 3 of them.

Ok, I got to ask... where did the name Festus come from? I ask because my friends and I use that word to describe a bunch of "stuff" (fungus, bugs, gunk) sitting in stagnant water.

Used as in "wow, look at all the festus in that water!"

My vote goes to standard poodle...not mini or toy but full size. They are smart, great energy, and you don't have to get them that ridiculous hair cut if you don't want to.
