What do ya'll know about Beagles? 40 Free pupppies From Animal Testing

I hate to be a wet blanket, but if my child had severe allergies, I'd think long and hard before getting any dog. "Hypoallergenic" is a relative term. My neighbor, who had severe allergies and asthma, got a "hypoallergenic"dog a few years ago (I forget what kind it was.) After about a week she was in the emergency room, the dog had to be rehomed and her kids were devastated.

About Beagles, I'm not really a dog lover, honestly, but the kids across the street from me when I was growing up always had beagles, and they were very sweet-natured little things. Loud, though. They drove my parents crazy baying at all hours of the night, but these were hunting dogs, though. They weren't kept inside, but in a kennel, and weren't trained to be quiet.

Even with that, though, they were good dogs with kids. I can't remember any incident when they were even rough with us. There's something about Beagle eyes, too. Very love-y.

I think someone else mentioned here, though, that what people are usually allergic to when it comes to dogs or cats is not usually the fur but the dander.

Here's an article about dog breeds that cause fewer problems for people with allergies . Beagles don't seem to be listed.

Gunsmoke is right! My husband and I watch gunsmoke alot, Chester is the first deputy to Matt Dillion, and Festus is the deputy that took over, Of course Miss Kitty speaks for herself.
My husband always had beagles for hunting dogs long ago... before me. He kept them outside too, never house pets. He didn't know what he was missing until we got the ones we have. we also had a litter of pups before we had kitty fixed. What a joy they were, my grandson used to sit in with them and they would crawl all over him giving him puppy kisses, just like a commercial on tv!!
They have a huge yard to play in all day, and they love it!

I dont have a pure breed beagle but I have a beagle/bassett mix. Has a puppy she was pretty good - took awhile to get the hang of potty training, and when she gets her mind set on something she tends to stick with it!
She is a very friendly girl loves everyone ( not the cats or chickens LOL ) gets along fine with other dogs.Can be VERY VERY stubborn - she will have times where she will not listen to us no matter what - and dont get her barking at something she will be there all day barking and no matter how many time you tell her thats enough she always lets out or two last barks just in case.
She is over all the best dog we have - she is now the ripe old age of 4 and still going strong !!

I am a big fan of the hound dogs. I don't have a pure beagle but a mix I think. I do know that beagles were bred to yowl and run. That is the purpose they were bred for. Some people actually enjoy their yodeling lol. As for their personality I think they are excellent little dogs. One trait that is they are pack friendly and get along well with other dogs. Most pack dogs are. I don't know where the hype-allergenic came from as beagles are most deffinetly a high shedding breed. Most toys run into that area. Finding a good toy that is hypoallergenic can be tough. Don't be a fool and fork out $1000.oo for a goldendoodle or labradoodle. They are basically mutts pure and simple. People are just out to make a big bucks for these dogs. Standard poodles are the best of the three choices, as they haven't been overly bred, well not yet at least. Maybe a bichon freis(sp?) would be a good choice. I hear their temperment is pretty good.

I have two beagles. They are both very friendly and loving. They are escape artists though and love to dig. I have one that has dug a tunnel as long as eight feet to get out of the back yard. The other prefers to climb more than dig. Sometimes I wonder if I have a gopher and a squirrel instead of two beagles.

I've been told that beagles can be hard to train because of that "stubborn" streak. They tend to be nose blind, and ignore everything when they are on a scent. This means they get out of the yard, chase a squirrel and don't hear you calling. That being said, every one I've been around has been good with kids. They do bay, but I kinda like the sound. I grew up with labs, and they are still my favorites. But, we're a dog free household these days, and I like it that way.
