Been there...done that. I've tried all my girls at the bottom of the pecking order. Tiny was getting stressed by them. That's why I'm trying to find her a good friend. Someone once suggested a small rabbit. Is that crazy?

Southern, I would wait awhile, whats the hurry? Are you addicted like the rest of us?

If you say she doesn't seem to mind being alone for now, why push it? Give it some time , then go shopping for a companion.

I'm actually not in a rush. She's been by herself for a month now. I just wanted to get another chicken in there and used to her so she'll have a cuddle buddy in the winter.

Do it.....get one so it wont be able to snub tiny. just be sure you will be there the first day. Most silkies are sweet so i think its a great idea. I would have a cage for the silkie in case you have to seperate them, but i think if you have trouble you can just try them in small sessions and gradually increase the times til they work it out. BTW...silkie Roo's are AWESOME!!!!!! so if you pick one and its a boy, they are funny and full of character.

I have silkies myself and if you wanted to sex them at 3 months I would check out there tails if one of them have a real poofy round tail it is most likely a male, if it is more like a "(\\" shaped tail it is mos likely a female good luck.

I work from home so I'll be able to watch them all day. I think I'll go for it and get one.

You better believe I'll take pics. Of course I have to clear everything with DH first. He's in Maryland doing a civil war reenactment until late pm tomorrow so it'll probably be Monday when I can go get me a silkie. I'm excited.

I put my silkie in with some baby chicks--and they all pecked on her! She just stood there and took it. I think you'll be fine. Also, my silkies do perch. I put their perch about 5" off the ground, and they snuggle up with the other standards, just loving it.

As far as sexing them, my silkie roo started crowing at three months....but before that, he just had huge wattles and a comb (for a silkie, that is), and he had a very masculine look to his face. My pullet basically has no wattles, no comb...just....fluff.

Thanks Doc, I have 4 silkie chicks and we are building their house right now and i wanted to know just that for placing the roost
