What do you call this cross breed(BRroosterXRIRhen)?

I believe I have some of these crosses. I have a rooster and a hen with dark barring and some gold/red leakage. The body type of the hen is exactly like my two ISA brown hens which are RIR/RIW sex-links here in Europe. She looks like a carbon copy except she's barred where they are pale red with white tails.

Here is a picture of my Roo.

He's bigger now, he was only 4 months old in that picture I think. He has perfect gold hackles and saddle now, not just messy leakage. More like a barred Red Birchen. He's a nice guy, chest butts my foot every now and then, but overall a gentleman, and sweet to his girls. He even lets my BO rooster get a little action if he's not close enough to push him off the hens.

The hen is a great layer of medium brown speckled eggs, identical to one of my ISA brown hen's eggs. I have a pure BR that lays "skin color" eggs that are completely solid and look like they're painted with latex, so the eggs are definitely more like the RIR. They say the egg color comes from the rooster.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what some of the initials are that you're referring to Village Chicken.

the point is that I want to compare my 3 week old chicks with others...just to confirm what I suspect or am hoping for at this time. Trying to piece the puzzle together. But it's hard to find pictures when you don't know what to call them

I bought my chickens from a vender in a small Mexican town near our home.

What I meant was, what it the point of this crossing? Is it to get a better layer, meat bird or both? I suppose it would be good to make your own crosses if you wanted to have a steady supply of layers. One article in practical poultry seemed to show hybrids as better layers than pure breds. However if we don't preserve the purebreds we'lll have nothing to make the crosses from and the gene pool will get to shallow.

They're selling them as laying hens. I don't know what the chicks are. The seller assures me that the hen is Rhode Island and that the roos look like the one's in the cage. Actually, he said the roo looks like the roo's in the cage. Then there was one crazy head looking chick that I exchanged for another with just a spot on it's head. I figured the crazy head one for sure would be a roo. The chicks could be a black link sex or barred rock. In that case, they probably are all roos. If in fact they've been crossed with a rir hen and a br roo then maybe there's a chance they'll be a mix of hens and roos. It's just a mess until I can see what the chicks turn out to be. I even considered them being marans or dominique...but am back to wondering what is the hybrid between a br roo and a rir hen. There's plenty of pictures of the black link sex...what is the flip of this mix called?

Tomorrow I can drive by and see if the seller has gotten any more chicks. He said there's also a solid black chick with red on it's collar. Gets more interesting all of the time. But from what little I've been able to find online, with it being reversed, they said the coloring will be inconsistent.

Mispollitos, your chicks could be a mix of hens and roos. If they are indeed a cross between a RIR hen and BR roo all the chicks will be black with a white spot on their head. Only time will tell if you have boys or girls.

Rancher Hicks: To answer your question, yes chickens are hybridized to create better layers. Mostly the hatcheries do this so they can tell the sex of the chicks upon hatching. There are many dedicated breeders who do not cross breed their chicks and are dedicated to preserving the breed of their choice. BSL are excellent layers and seem to have the best qualities of both breeds. Hybrid vigor is used in almost all parts of livestock production including hogs, cattle, and poultry. The pure breeds are maintained because the hybrids do not breed true. Hope this answers your questions.

No, you have that backwards. A Red Rock is just a black sexlink. A BR roo over ANY hen gives you ALL barred birds, not sex linked ones. That isn't a separate breed, just a cross breed. To get a sex link, the hen has to be the barred one and the male the solid colored one, not vice versa.
