I bet dollars to doughnuts the use of "craw" predates "crop". And speaking like that comes natural, around here, anyway. No, what rubs me the wrong way is when there is a perfectly good word, like crop, that for literally no reason other than people are too busy making sure they mentally live like someone from Little House on the Prairie, decided to make the word craw. It is still four letters. And changing it serves no purpose. Saltwater crocodile being shortened to "salties" however does cut down on time both verbally and written, when carrying on a conversation in a non-educational format.![]()
I can't buy a doughnut for a dollar.I bet dollars to doughnuts the use of "craw" predates "crop". And speaking like that comes natural, around here, anyway.
I'm an English major and a professional writer. It's my job to be obnoxious about things like that. Especially when you live in Texas, and people think it is okay to put crap on the website for the university like "I didn't come here for the book learning, I came for the pretty girls." Or, "I wanted to see if everything was really bigger in Texas."I bet dollars to doughnuts the use of "craw" predates "crop". And speaking like that comes natural, around here, anyway.
How would I know!? I don’t speak Australian! And the only “salties” we have here are sharks.Says the ree-ree who thought saltie meant shark...
