Hi all..
One of my hens apparently broke off the end of a toenail and it was bleeding rather heavily last night. I didn't have a styptic pencil/powder handy (guess I better go buy one!) so I held a paper towel on the end for a bit then put her back in her coop which has a sand floor. The sand seems to have helped the toenail clot because I checked on her an hour after bedtime and the perch seemed free of blood (just dried blood on the toe).
Is there a typical treatment for this injury..and how likely is it that this area will get infected? Any advice?
