I'm a "retired" vet tech 1983-2003, (worked same practice 20 yrs) and did their equine practice until one fell on me at work, then did their small animal tech work to office mgr when I got married and had my 2 children. I quit in 2003 to home school the kids who were in a pvt Christian school but bored stiff (already) in 3rd and 4th grade---even though they were in accelerated classes.
Before that I managed equine breeding farms and also did extensive foaling work and neo natal care.
Now I work at a friend's horse farm part time, the kids go with, and we still home school. One is in 10th and one is in 9th grade, soon to be 11th and 10th in a week!
. They love it and have learned to work and save money, and help animals/people all at the same time.
We have a small hobby farm with horses, chickens, dogs, cats and fish and gardens, all done naturally and organically.
Also help with rescue work when possible and adopted a pomeranian rescue last year that we all adore.
There's a huge market out there for the doggie *& kitty* day care and boarding businesses. I get calls all the time to house sit friend's pets and horses, and their friend's pets when they are out of town. People are looking for that personal touch as businesses grow and loose that touch. Good luck!
