I love threads like this - thanks for starting it!
I am the Project Director for the Lands & Natural Resources Department for the regional Native Corporation on Kodiak Island. What does that mean? Well, I handle any of the special projects on the lands owned by the corporation. At any given time I can be working with consultants to make sure our reforestation committments are being met, installing trails across our land to access world-class fishing streams, setting up bear viewing programs, building or maintaining cabins on said streams, floating rivers to inventory camp sites (it's a tough job), implementing protective measures for our lands that have been damaged by off-road vehicle use, overseeing soil remediation efforts, spraying for invasive weeds...the list goes on. I regulary get to come face to face with sitka blacktail deer, fox, bald eagles and kodiak brown bears - though I doubt you could say I "work" with them. It's an awsome job that took me 10 years after college to work up to (all you teenagers - don't feel bad about "paying your dues"). In past lives I sold insurance, ran a lawn & landscape business and waited tables (lots & lots of tables!) I used to write home improvement articles for the local newspaper but gave that up a couple months ago due to lack of time.
My degree is in Abused Land Rehabilitation from Montana State University with a minor in range management.
I am also a co-advisory of our local FFA chapter and president of our local non-profit trails organization. I'm mommy to a beautiful 8 year old daughter, 2 dogs - a golden retreiver mix and a boston terrier, 2 cats, 2 rabbits, 5 chickens and 3 ducks.
My wonderful husband retired/quit a year ago after 22 years as a mail carrier and now works from home as a full-time blacksmith and custom knife maker as well as stay-at-home dad.
We only have a half acre outside of town but are bound and determined to fill it with as many animals as possible!
