I'm a communications engineer / consultant. I spent many years at a major carrier, working in design and operations. Of late, I've been consulting to a multi-national, planning infrastucture upgrades ... a dicey position in this economy!

There are quite a few people where I'm presently working who raise chickens as a hobby, and quite a few of my former telco peers were into hobby farming as well. I know quite a few execs who trade wingtips and briefcase for boots and a straw hat as soon as they get home.

I'm presently trying to decide what to do next, once my current project ends ... stay in the DC area, where I've been for many years, or look for an IT job in a smaller market, so I can have a decent sized "hobby farm" ... preferably someplace with real winters, like I grew up with.

For a living-----I sell daylilies (flowers) mail orders mostly and I take care of a wonderful elderly lady. I do everything there I would do at home. laundry, dishes, cook. shopping, bills you name it. We also own our own business putting in utilities for new homes and we know that ain't happening right now.
