A full time Veterinary Technician at a small home town clinic. Everything from restraint, anesthesia, laundry, reception and managerial tasks. I love it!
Also I have become a hobbyist dog trainer specializing in the 'naughty' ones that no one wants or can handle. Really just reactive dogs that have no jobs! Ran a dog rescue for 4 years but got burnt out. Lots are legitimate but most were people that just never took a dog as a life time commitment (dogs life) just a convenient splurge, only to realize they take work just like little people. In most cases, its not even the dog's fault! Ironic I rescued Pit Bulls, but most of my clients had every breed but! Funny how prejudice works! I now train dogs at a facility and take clients for Behavior Modification classes, and Behavior Analysis Programs. So I wind up getting a few clients from the Vets office, and the rest from the training facility. I focus my clients on getting their dogs busy, and keeping them out of trouble. Scent games, article detection, service dog tasks, weight pull, and any sport the dog has a nack for! If they aren't willing to be committed financially, liability wise or time wise, I turn them away. I won't set a dog up to fail, and I won't tell lies to get a client. Theres no magic wand to 'fix' biting dogs, or peeing dogs, or cat/chicken killing dogs. Its time, patience and lots of desensitizing. In the long run, most clients would rather 'manage' a bad dog, than retrain it! If I can have three grump, female rescued 'pit bull type dogs' that will get along, and still have all my chickens, anyone can!!!
Sigh, can you tell I had one of those clients today!?
I seem to enjoy 'caring' and 'training' things so if it isn't dogs, or my giant veggie garden, now its chickens! I'm learning more everyday and may even get into a breeding plan....fell in love with my Blue Cochins! Maybe even have a self sufficient farm someday. We don't have kids yet so anything to keep me busy!
