What do you do when your cull attempt fails..

I have a CO2 canister that I use to make sparkling water, and I've also used it to cull chicks, not sure how well it would work for a full grown hen.
I did think of something like that but I don't have anything.

They looked at me as if they knew they'd won that round.

Managed to get a small syringe with medicine into her when I closed them in for the night.
She's not able to stand other than to toilet. She did manage a few gulps of her medicine before turning around in her wee nest.
The medicine is 1/4 of an 8th paracodeine crushed into warmed honey for energy and unsweetened kefir to help empty her crop, plus she loves kefir. Hoping it's enough to get her through the night but if she's weaker in the morning, I won't be leaving her to suffer further.
The decision to cull her came from her having a bleeding nose through the day and stopping drinking.
The pic was after getting some medicine into her.

Did she make it through the night?
Yes she did. She perked up a bit this morning and I managed to get her to drink quite a bit of paracodeine, kefir and honey. I've just been back out to her. She's where I left her in the nest but is breathing heavy. She's struggling to keep fluids down so I'm going keep her pain under control and just let her slip away in her sleep.
I don't think she will make it another night. She's a sweet girl and lopping her head or cutting her neck will just upset her sister so I'm going to just keep her comfortable and let it go where it's meant to. If she makes it through another night, she'll survive but it's meant to get down to 2° tonight and -1 tomorrow night.
If my mumma hen wasn't inside still getting over pneumonia, I'd bring Britney in. But one laying vs one not.. I gotta keep Jess inside. :)

Heavy breathing is always a bad sign... I am very sorry... Take as many pictures, do you have a spot to burry her? Dont plant any trees or flowers until a month or two later, I planted a apple tree next to my favorite hen who passed, (may she rest softly with her favorite food clovers and cherrys) the apple tree died a few weeks later, wich is sad.

Yeah she will go next to their other sister beside the shade wall.
The same goes when you bury cats, plants die straight away. It's the decomposition gasses that turns the soil toxic. Takes 3 weeks for the gas to subside.

Here's an update for ya..
Gave her the medicine earlier, she rested a while. Her breathing was so heavy I decided to use a lethal dose of 1500mg.. pffft... She's standing to poop, holding her head up and eating..

So much for dying, she does have a lump below her vent tho, it's all skin which had been covered in poop.
It's after 5pm, I've closed her sister in with her, silly chook drank some of the 'medicine'.. I guess I'll find out the result in the morning..

Hi😁!

Ok so, I've actually never heard of anyone gassing their birds! Very interesting! On the other hand though, I would like to tell you how I do my birds. I've done probably at least 100 this way with no incident at all😊. If you don't want to hear it then that's alright I am just trying to help😁

I don't chop heads off. I don't like that😓! Instead I slit the Jugular. With a razor sharp knife you slit their throats. It's quick effective and painless😁. Even though it sounds rough it's really not. Some blood comes out, they nerve out and then it's over. I don't know, but it sounds easier than gassing them🤷‍♀️. I hope this helps😁
I found this website about gassing for you, it's not the one I used originally, this one explains properly how to make the carbon dioxide.
I'm pretty sure it didn't work with these girls because I didn't have it airtight enough and didn't use enough vinegar. It does suggest using muriatic acid, over here it's called hydrochloric acid which I have heaps of :)

Honestly I would never gas any animal, it's too easy to mess it up and make the animal suffer. If I had no other option than to gas them, I'd rather let nature run its course.
I prefer to cut the head off. Almost impossible to mess it up. Almost because you can always end like Miracle Mike.
I've used the gas on young ones that had injuries or deformed after hatching. It works in less than 20 seconds.
I didn't have a guide for the formula for these girls and the chamber wasn't air tight enough so it's done them no harm. The object was to quickly send them to sleep but since it didn't work, they're still alive, well they were when I closed them in for the night. I'll be assessing them each day and decide what action to take.
:)

What/who's miracle mike?

Maybe she will pull through... Hopefully.
