What do you do when your roo attacks?

In Serious Actuality........(hard for me),

My ONLY rooster, "Oro Blanco de Gallo" has only attacked ANYTHING twice in the 9 or 10 months I have had him (got him at 6 mo. old). He is, I believe, a Red Sex-Link.

First time..about 2 or 3 weeks ago, he attacked a neighbor who had come to view my new chicks. Nailed his legs 3 or 4 times, unexpectedly. Surprised and embarrassed me. It wasn't good, because the neighbor was wearing shorts!

2 days ago, ajusting for this HOT weather, I wore shorts. While feeding the chickens, "Ole Oro Blanco" attacked me from behind and REALLY "nailed me" with his beak! raised a welt on my leg about an inch high!

This guy is TRULY a Sweetheart! Except these two incidents......

I figure it's the SHORTS!!!

Either he's "insulted" by my skinny legs or else he thinks there's a competing rooster "showin' off his pretty physique" and SO, HE ATTACKS!

Well now, I ain't no "chicken psychologist", but I'll tell ya this much fer sure:

"I ain't wearin' SHORTS in the chicken yard no more!"

I kicked "air and dirt" and scooted my foot real fast into the roosters.... all of them get a face full of dirt kicked or thrown on them if they get too close... they do not bother me any more!

Ive said it before and ill say it again...the minute one of mine goes after my kids I wont hesitate to pop the lil poops head(in front of my kids...this way they learn what happens when u got a mean roo, and how to take care of it) and then he is in the stew pot. Ive got one I think im gonna have to do it to here shortly and it doesnt break my heart

Our Welsummer roo decided to start attacking last week. Luckily he wasn't super aggressive about it and he and I had a "battle" where everytime he came at my legs with claws he was met with a foot! Same thing happened to my husband with the same result.

It's been several days and even when we try to provoke him he just runs away now....the roo, not my husband.

I sure hope our Jersey Giant doesn't get aggressive, his feet are huge.

I tried the one method on a BR roo I had of holding the roo upside down til he calmed down then flipped him back up and carried him around with me in a football hold while doing the feed/water, DD and DS also had to use this method on him. We had to do this for about a week consistently every time we went out to the coop. After that the BR realized he wasn't top dog with us I guess cause he went back to being the sweet roo he originally was and never ran after another human. Worked on my Dutch roo I had too. Works on some, I got lucky with that technique.

Oh gosh. I hope I never see the day when our rooster acts up. He's never even tried to get feisty, except with the dog (which was to be expected - she doesn't know the term "personal space").

I can't tell you how many people have told me about horror stories growing up that involved rooster attacks. "Oh, I'd never have chickens! They're mean!" I do NOT want my kids to ever share that opinion.
