Regardless of how some people feel about keeping cats in their own yards, I don't see how that is possible at all. Cats will roam if they are outside at all. That's what cats do. If the cat appears well fed, I would take a wait and see approach.

The only problem with live-trapping the cat is once it's released you'll have a really hard, if not impossible time, of trapping it again.

Out here in the boondocks, stray cats are fair game. Strays are not tolerated and are trapped and euthenized in a humane way. Stray cats compete with wildlife, mainly raptors, for food and they kill songbirds by the millions nationwide each year.

Stray cats are a PROBLEM. What you decide to do about it is your business and I, for one, will not judge you. We deal with them regularly in our yard as well but in the country you can't be arrested for disposing of them as you see fit.

Hands down, chickens cost money and in today's economy, you can almost view a good layer as an investment. I for one will protect my livestock against stray cats, dogs, possums or anything that threatens them. I hope you can find a workable solution to your problem. Good luck!

I agree if the cat isnt harming the chickens then let it be, it will take care of any rodents and snakes. we have about 5 strays that live at our house, they were here when we moved in, they really dont bother me because we have 2 cats also.

the only problem I have is my pit bull, she chases them, 99% of the time they beat her to the fence. I had to scream at her to let go of one that wasnt fast enough, she didnt hurt it but I was pretty p.o.'d at her about it,defending her territory I guess because she doesnt even look at our cats and shes pretty much afraid of them.

I think water is the trick. Long time ago I saw this device designed to keep deer and other crittes out of the garden. It is a motion dector and sprays water when the critter comes into the area. I have no clue what it was called or where you could find it, but I bet a few sprays and it won't be coming back.

I've caught my cats eating the chicken feed! Other wise my 3 cats don't bother the chickens. they also like to watch them free range. They walk amongst the chickens, with the dogs, all happily co-existing.

i don't care how nice a cat may seem they still have that predator instinct, they might not bother your bigger birds but they will get chicks. i've lost several chicks and even bantams to cats.

I usually shoot them with a rifle. At 100 yds out they are good target practice. If they are near the house it's the shotgun.

If I catch them in a hav-a-hart trap, I'll often use them to bait a coyote within shooting distance, then humanely dispatch the cat.

I would just say something to the neighbor. It may be out more now because of the premies as cats really shouldn't be around babies to begin with. For all you know with everything else going on they may decide that is the last straw for the cat.
