What do you do with your dead (chickens, ducks, quail, etc...)

Perchie Girl...Thanks for your helpful hint...we are neighbors as our place is in El Hongo at the racetrack. We came to get some mixed hay in your town a
few months back and glad to know that there people that enjoy their chickens,turkeys and guineas and peacocks as much as we do. We have been given animals that were going to be killed due to injuries but bring them here as our worker/friend (for 15 years) is amazing with all of these animals. He puts eggs from peacocks or whatever species under a good laying hen and she
raises them and they stay together as a group until they are large enough to be on there own. It is amazing how the animals seem to be better at accepting differences in each other than human beings. I of course have my favorites that come to the front and or back door to receive little treats first thing in the morning. They are all free range on 2 1/2 acres or one hecterea. If you come this way please stop by and visit La Gringa at the racetrack in El Hongo. We have a special breed that are interesting. LOL

I bury mine. Usually, in a little wooded spot.

But my roo in the avatar, Lafayette, died recently. I loved that rooster. He was awesome. I buried him right under the window box of petunias attached to the small coop, next to a rose bush.

He loved his ladies, so I thought it was fitting to bury him next to them.

If the cause of death is unknown, I send them to the vet school for complete work up.
It is imperative I know what killed them.
If a large number are killed by predators, like perhaps 40 a night by mink, I burn them.
If smaller birds or I have a big enough pile, I'll compost them.

I got some in large and they barely go on my size 9 mens boots, but do fit my size 10 womens sneakers... What size/brand did you get ChickenCanoe and what size shoes do they fit?

I found a few boxes on E-bay and they fit everyone's shoes.

It doesn't apply to most small holders but big Ag commercial farms dispose of dead beef and dairy cattle, hogs and poultry insitu by composting. They will make windrows of them in fields and cover with piles of straw. When a disease like HPAI infests a barn of poultry, they'll foam the barn, plow them to the center with a bobcat and compost in place. I imagine they've done the same with the millions of hogs and poultry that drown in hurricane Florence.
