what do you feed a baby chick?

Mine are 11 weeks old and they are on medicated chick "start and grow". It's starter and grower in one. When mine start laying I'll switch them to layer.

I began with starter and have moved on to grower. My birds are 7 weeks old and have good size on them (ie - big! LOL ) In about 10 weeks I'll switch to layer.

Right now I mix the grower with scratch grains, oats and black oil sunflower seeds. They also get yogurt, soft cooked rice, hard boiled eggs, bugs, worms, grass and assorted vegetable trimmings.

I agree with everyone about feeding chick starter, not grown up chicken feed. The babies are not supposed to get too much calcium, it does something to their bones. They also need more protein. Laying hens on the other hand require lots of calcium.
I've raised my chicks with medicated and unmedicated. The medication is to prevent coccidiosis. (The chicks get a bloody stool and die.) Keeping everything clean should prevent that from happening. I have not yet lost a chick to this disease.
I keep my chicks on chick starter for about 2 months, than gradually swith to chick scratch and adult feed.
