What do you feed your ducks? Does anyone feed there ducks and chickens and/or Quail the same food? Last summer I feed my ducks mostly corn and grain. I feed my chickens starter / layer. Over the winter I just feed everyone a mix of corn and layer. Now I have baby and adult chicks and ducks plus the quail. I've heard layer feed can hurt chicks. Just curious on what everyone feeds when they have chicks and ducks of all ages running together??

I feed my ducks game bird feed and offer ground e g g shells or oyster shells to the girls.

You don't want to feed layer feed to the chicks because their is extra calcium in it for laying. You also don't want to feed layer food to any boys you have in the mix for the same reason.

Some people here do feed game bird feed to their chickens, but I am not a chicken expert.

Our chicks, laying hens and ducks are all separated, so we feed starter/grower to the chicks, layer pellets to the hens, and waterfowl feed to the ducks.

I understand, though, that many people who have them running together feed flockraiser to all, and have a separate container of oyster shell for calcium for the laying birds.

I didn't even think about the boys in the mix. Maybe it would be better to not feed layer and just substitute oyster shell?? With that thinking maybe I should just feed everything unmedicated chick feed mixed with grain or corn???

I just have a big thing of chick starter with added niacin. I don't limit their feeding. My big ducks have free access to the game bird feed
