BLECK!
I hate Starbuck's coffee. My best friend works at one and gets all kinds of free stuff, so much that she gives it away to her friends. I finally had to tell her I prefer tea just to stop the coffee from coming in gift bags. So now I have a lifetime supply of their tea, which is good. Otherwise I wouldn't go to Starbucks anyway, as the price of a cup of coffee would cancel out several items on my grocery list. I don't live near a Starbucks anyway these days, now that I live in east...... um, out in the country.
But I do have kind of a funny story about Starbucks. Back when I lived with my ex, I would always wake up and brew coffee. Not Starbucks obviously, but whatever store brand I was drinking at the time. My friend mentioned above had recently visited, bringing me a bag of Starbucks coffee, so I politely thanked her and put it in the pantry with the full intention of never touching it again.
So one morning, I was very tired, and slept in. My ex (well he wasn't an ex at the time) stuck his head in the bedroom to ask why I was still in bed. I told him I was exhausted. He offered to brew coffee for me, something he rarely did, and I said "Yeah, that would be great". So he went and brewed coffee while I lingered in bed. Suddenly I woke up, alarmed, because I could smell something electrical burning. I called to him and he popped his head in. "Is something wrong with the coffee maker?" I asked. No, he said it was fine and left. A couple minutes later I was wide awake because I KNEW that SOMETHING was burning. It smelled electrical, or like rubber burning. I got up, put on my robe and started sniffing around. Not the lamp.... I went out in the hallway, still sniffing. I got to his office, he was sitting at his computer. "Do you smell THAT??" I asked, sniffing around his desk to see if his computer was smoldering. "I don't know what you're talking about" he said. "All I smell is coffee brewing". I scoffed, and said "NO, it's definitely not coffee, something is burning, something is
wrong.." and wandered out to the kitchen. That's where I noticed the Starbucks bag sitting on the counter. Since he never brewed coffee, he just grabbed the first coffee he saw, which was the Starbucks that I hate so much. I went closer, and sure enough, it was the coffee I was smelling. The funny thing is that for years I would tell people that Starbucks tastes like someone left it on the burner WAY too long.
It's pretty bad when I can smell it brewing and become ALARMED...
