What do you prefer? Bantam Or giants/Jumbos?

All my standards fly, I have yet to see my silkie, mottled cochin and silver laced wynadotte fly - they're all bantams
My leghorns are the worst, I clip their wings. Though, my belgian quails will fly for a very short distance if they are spooked.

It wouldnt be such a big deal if they could fly if I could free range them. But my free ranging days are over for a while since the last dog attack. I think Ill get both breeds. Just because the Jumbos were absolutley GORGEOUS but then the bantams just... well I can see them in my yard

I would hope so. I wouldn't let anything free range there and I would be extra careful with that fencing to be sure that it was secure.

I prefer the bantam size, but then again I like everything in miniature

On my "wish/must have some day" list I have: a miniature jersey cow, a babydoll sheep, and a miniature pony or horse.
I have seen some gorgeous full/standard size breeds on this forum's member pages that made me jealous

If we find 5 acres this Spring (like we want to do) my husband has promised me I can have my wishes fulfilled.
hmmmm.....I may have to add some standard and/or jumbo size chicks to my list.

One thing I would like an opinion on (not to hijack the thread....but in keeping with the theme...):
I have heard that Bantams aren't as friendly and cuddly as some of the larger breeds?

BANTAMS!!!!!
But then I may be a little prejudice! LOL

Tons of reasons, most have already been listed. Only reason for large fowl would be meat or eggs to me..and if it;s eggs, just use 2 to 1

i love my bantams! (have standard size chickens for eggs as well though), but its personal preference as to which you go for. I dont mind the tiny bantam eggs, just use 2 instead of one. I have about 50 bantams and 18 regular.

i do like tiny/mini things, my cows are dexters (mini cows), i have st coix hair sheep (ok so not miniature but a lot smaller than a lot of other breeds), dwarf hampsters, a tiny dog (7lbs)...the list goes on
