What do you prefer- Bantams or Standard??

I had some kind of mixed banties, and they were great little layers. I had 4 eggs a day, no problem. So they did serve their purpose.

BUT

I have switched them out for all dual-purpose standards. I guess I just needed big chickens again. Plus, I can eat them! No meat on a banty

Absolutely-if I had property I would have some dual purpose breeds too! Poor me lives in town though, so I try to cram as many little bantams as I can in my yard

I have both. Mostly banties for my son who is in
4-H, and they are easier for him to handle.

I do like my standards who give me some great eggs, but my banty RIR hens are also good layers.

I can't say I like one for than the other. I like them all!!

I have 2 bantam "foofoo" birds now, but am sitting on (not me, the inc'y) 18 Silver Ameraucanas ..which are not really standard either, but close ...or in between ..or?

Anyhow... living in the city, I want small chooks so I can have more! DH eats a lot of darn eggs

Standards. I can sell the big eggs for more, and they are generally more prolific in eggs produced/feed consumed providing they are production breeds. They also have more meat on them to eat and stand a better chance not getting picked off by birds of prey. If needing a broody, a large hen can cover more eggs. More utilitarian all around from that side of things

However, for pets and entertainment, I like my silkies as they are pretty hardy and their black meat is pretty utilitarian for the asian market.
