what do you think about this?!

Well here's my two cents.

!. Silkies are not "real" chickens. They are aliens here to suck out brains out. That's why they don't look like chickens and are so friendly. They want to take over the world. That's why they go broody at the drop of a hat. The more they can reproduce the better. I'm not fooled by their cuteness.

2. I would suggest Two of each breed you get. Chickens are not humans and are very racist. They will roost with their own kind. They will live with others peacefully but like to have the company of their own breed. I also suggest buying from a private breeder if you can. I recently acquired two Silver Laced Wyandottes and they are snobs. Won't roost with the Barred Rocks. Plus I have more than a few breeds so I know how they can be. Birds of a feather and all that stuff.

3. You have got to get a couple of colored egg layers or you'll just wish you did. Doesn't matter whether EE's or Ameraucana. Seeing those colored eggs is just cool.

4. What ever coop you build it should be the biggest darn coop you can build. Your going to want more and more and more chickens.

I wish you happy chickens keeping,

Rancher

LOL, I have a 130# Great Dane named Emma that does the exact same thing! She barks, runs and stands behind me and climbs into my lap if I'm sitting.

I've skimmed over everyones' opinions and I gotta say.... My chickens do not behave that way. I'm pretty sure at least 2 of my silkies are roos plus my mutt, Doug, and possibly another mutt, Snoopy. They all get along so well! Of course, I should point out that they are still young so I'm keeping an eye out for attitudes as they get older.... But Doug runs the show and he has never picked on anyone, even the silkies.
And I also want to add that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE mutts

I have 5 mutts. They are all sweet and nice and get along very well with the silkies and the ducks

I couldn't ask for a better flock so far.
I will be adding to it next year though so here's hoping the good behavior keeps up

Mutts are pretty cool... I hear mutts always make thee best pets.

Any bird can make a good pet, I have purebreds and mutts. Some are tame, some aren't. I haven't found that it varies on whether the bird is a mutt or not.

Just asked my mom if that can be a early birthday present... And she said YES!!! But I can only get four...

I have found what rancher hicks said to be somewhat true actually. Unless you have a flock of only 5 chickens or something. I don't know what it is, but different breeds do tend to hang out with each other.
