What do you think? Am I too picky?

Personally I think you are showing responsible ownership. But the bottom line is not, what do we or anybody else think, it's what do you think? Your opinion is the only one that matters. You have to live with yourself. Integrity is doing what YOU believe is right. If there comes a time when you are producing more birds than you can find homes for that meet your standards, then it's probably time to stop producing them. That, too, is responsible ownership. You're doing fine.

Thank you!! This batch of babies was more out of curiosity, like what would a chocolate Ancona and a black Swedish produce? (Turns out they create babies with little crests!)
So I will not be breeding anymore! Love this experience though.

That's awesome, good for you! :hugs

Just as the devil’s advocate: don’t be too harsh on the people who have different pets that need to eat as well-they may be looking for the best food possible for their pet instead of just garbage or possibly inhumanely made stuff from a pet food company. And wild animals need to eat too. (No I don’t think it’s ok to just leave domesticated animals out as a buffet for wild animals without providing adequate protection, escape routes etc.) That said, as the seller YOU get to decide where they go, maybe though when you list them you can add a “to good homes only” line to discourage people looking for food or Willy nilly replacements from contacting you in the first place.

I agree on the food for wild animals + best food for pets. However, they are ways to get ducklings/chicks online for raw feeding.
I'll be changing up my ads a little.
Thank you for your input.<3

Nope.

I don't think just because ducklings -- or chicks are "livestock" animals they deserve any less consideration than any other animal.

And I completely understand that other people have "pets" that need to eat, too -- my son recently lost his beloved lizard that required living crickets or dubia roaches. Still, the crickets or roaches that I used for his pet were kept in a clean and lovely environment by me until such time that they were used. I didn't write off their existence since they were "feeders" -- I didn't buy "pets" -- I didn't seek out animals that were wild, or that someone had raised for other purposes.

I am also not a vegetarian or vegan -- I have been all over the world, and am culturally sensitive having had close relationships with friends and colleagues who eat things that a lot of my American friends would find distasteful. I have eaten, or at least tried things that I wouldn't share with friends and family here at home because they'd not understand --or at least be judgmental.

That said, like yourself, I would NOT sell or give my ducklings to people in this situation. I did not give my pullets in a similar situation. It's the same with kittens or puppies -- I wouldn't give them to someone wanting to use them as food for a snake or if I knew the home wasn't safe, etc.

I understand when people have to feed their pets, but these ducklings ARE pets. I brought them into the world to be pets.

I completely understand the different cultures part also, I'm from a household where boiling a pig head in gelatin is a delicacy. (Not that I eat it)
I think people think less of chickens and ducks because they livestock to lots of people, lots of people don't realize they feel pain, have different personalities, etc.

That's exactly my point. I agree completely.
