I just got my first coop all up and running this year. My birds are about 10 months old now. Added doors, locks, screened windows, hardware cloth, got it all dialed in.........and now I've found this coop on Craigslist that I just can't live without! *sigh*
I'm loving this chicken farming and want to add two or three to my crew in the spring. That said, I NEED a bigger coop right? Mine only holds 4 max, which is what I have. I want to use my existing coop as a brooder pen if one of my ladies goes broody this spring.
There is a lot I will need to do to this new coop as obviously the guy who built it did not add any ventilation! I'm going to hardware cloth the bottom part in and incorporate my existing run onto it, which will take some work. I think I will add the ventilation and maybe a simple plexi window onto the back side which won't be seen from the front. It will allow for a little light in the coop. Otherwise I love how long and skinny it is. Perfect for my long skinny side yard. It's 9ft. long and 7ft. high yet only two feet deep. They guy says it hold up to 7, which should be plenty for me. Plus it's just so darned cute and silly.
Where would you add the ventilation/ lighting without compromising the integrity of the outhouse look?
***NOTE**The guys says there is a long roosting bar across the whole top of the coop. I can't see it in the pictures, but I can change bars around easily enough. That little cross one won't do.
