What do you think of assemble yourself coop kits?

I would agree with build one yurself for $279 you can get some good amount of lumber for a small coop.

I thought about buying a shed kit and converting it to a coop ... til I checked out how cheap the materials were. I could have smashed my forehead right through the wall with one of those kits.

It took me longer to build one from scratch, but I don't expect it to be falling apart in a few years.

I've ordered that product from the seller.

The wood is very soft so it is very easily scratched, broken, chipped etc. The item is also not packed well so the wood is damaged during shipment by it sliding back and forth in the box. Mine arrived with chunks out of it so the seller compensated a bit. The local fed ex driver even commented that it should never have been shipped.

Hinges on parts of the product rust in the rain (happened first week outside). Wood is already separating in sections from the rain (few months later).

It's one of those products which could give you a good idea for a coop design but fails to deliver in the product itself.

Save your money....I wish I did.

Full-size birds require 4 sq ft/bird minimum. Less is likely to promote fighting, poor health and reduced egg-laying. Most posts in BYC speak poorly of prefab kits, especially if from Red China. One alternative is to look for a play house that someone wants rid of due to moving or kids now too old, etc. They look great, are not that hard to convert, and will work well for a small flock. Another one is an extra-large dog kennel or even two that could be co-joined.
