I did a search for "beading tweezers" and found this site: http://www.widgetsupply.com/ I am considering ordering the following items to use for caponizing cockerel chicks. I am not happy with the tools I am currently using, they're from an antique set and not as helpful as I want.

I still would like to find a better pair of locking retractors. But I hope these tools will help make the rest of the job go easier. Has anyone else used tools like these for caponizing?
 
Not speaking from experience (yet), I feel like the angled tweezers would be easier to handle but at the same time the ones with the large cup seem like they'd get a better hold. I'm curious to see what others have to say on this too. Would you just hold the light while you worked or would you have it propped somehow? It seems perfect for seeing into a tiny area.
 
The testicles are small, soft & squashy like a cooked bean. And the cavity in which you're working is cramped & difficult to light. Especially if you have over-40 eyes like mine, that don't see as well up close any more. And I don't have anyone willing to stand & help by aiming the light. The forceps I use now have open triangles as the ends, and often the organ slips right through. I hope these cup-ended tweezers will do the job better.
 
Ooh, I was very interested in getting these ... until I saw the $65.25 price!!! I wish this were in my budget, they do look useful. Thank you for providing the link anyway.
 
They have the russian forceps on EBay for $10 or less.

The vet suggested an electrical cauterizing scalpel to sever the testicles which would then cauterise the blood vessel. Anyone heard of those?

What about a rib spreader? Any ideas on that?

Like TNK said, $10 on Ebay. That other site just had a nice close-up pic. Thought they might help you all minimize slips.

The rib spreaders that another BYCer recommended in the other thread are also on Ebay. Don't remember the brand name....starts with a W. Look it back up in that thread and then do a search with the W*** name and they'll come right up usually listed as vet supplies.
