Those overflow chicks may be ones that were iffy on arrival and they weren't sure we're going to make it or thought they needed more heat. I have a bin at home for those ones when i get my shipmentsyea it's too bad they have to call it that, there were empty bins in the display stack...
I agree. One of our TSC managers is a family friend, so she tells me things they might not normally tell customers. The bins in the back sometimes hold “hospital” birds, and sometimes just the extras, when I have seen that the bins out front are all full. When I am looking for specific breeds, I have often been invited back to look at what other breeds they just couldn’t put out yet. And not just by my friend. Both of my TSC stores have done that. Those overflow chicks may be ones that were iffy on arrival and they weren't sure we're going to make it or thought they needed more heat. I'd been wondering that. I've used lamps for mail order birds, but this time got birds that had been in a store for almost 2 weeks, so I tried the heat pad setup. I still went crazy not being able to see the birds under the heat!I find that if there is any concern, such as shipping stress, I don’t really want them going under the MHP and crashing where I can’t see them.
This is exactly what they told me when I brought back the dead and one dying chick. Makes you wonder if they put them back with the others on the floorThose overflow chicks may be ones that were iffy on arrival and they weren't sure we're going to make it or thought they needed more heat. Where is that ? I've never seen them do that during chick season. Maybe at the end of the season.Don't forget, when a new shipment is coming in, they liquidate the older batch at as little as $.50 each. They move them real quick.
It can happen whenever they aren't selling as fast as new ones come in. If you start to see older chicks, or chicks combined that were in separate bins, you'll start to see discounts. The lowest I got was $1 each and 2 free. It wasn't near the end of the season, but it was before covid made the demand skyrocket. This past fall I got buy one, get one at cal-ranch because they were closing out of chicks for the winter. There were two bins/displays of birds, all 2 + weeks old. Also, the meat birds get so big so fast, and the ducks, I'd expect to see discounts on them, IF they don't sell well.Where is that ? I've never seen them do that during chick season.
