Pekin x Sebright mix.
Part the feathers on the back and look for saddles. That's a big comb and set of wattles for a 12 week old.
True. I'm not sure about how those particular genetics work. But since Sebright males are supposed to be hen-feathered, this bird might also be a hen-feathered male.
We might just have to guess from comb & wattles until it either crows or lays an egg.
Based on the comb & wattles, I'm tentatively guessing male, although of course I could be wrong.
Hen-feathering is a dominant gene, though it impacts fertilization, so many hatchery sebrights either have only one copy of the gene or are missing it altogether.True. I'm not sure about how those particular genetics work.
My thoughts too.. I've been treating it as a roo but thought I'd run it past y'all for a second opinion.Younger than I thought. Part the feathers on the back and look for saddles. That's a big comb and set of wattles for a 12 week old.
I'd assume cockerel until proven otherwise. My thoughts too.. I've been treating it as a roo but thought I'd run it past y'all for a second opinion.
It was bred by me (so I know the parentage) but given, as a very young chick, to a lady with a broody hen. She's only recently returned it so I've not been able to see it's behavior growing up and, of course, being integrated into general population here, it's firmly on the bottom of the pecking order so any potential cockerel behavior is not at all tolerated!!
Was hatched early NovemberI thought it looked closer to 5 months.
