What do you think the verdict should be?

Eh. The more questions the harder it is for her to grade. We want simplicity for her.

I too would want the test to be worth the 3 hours of driving. I just wouldn't want to spend forever having to grade it. Thus I'd do one PITA question.

Can she ask the riddle I ask our 1st graders?

If a rooster is sitting on the roof peak of a barn and lays an egg, which side will it roll off of? (BYCers should have no problem getting this one!

A test full of riddles would be fun! Though, not appropriate as it is for an actual grade going towards an actual degree in something.

Did I miss where she needs to change the test? Is that allowed? Can that come back to bite her if he finds out his test is different from his fellow students?

A lot of question test is only hard to grade if it's essay... FILB can be annoying, but you can take points for misspelling mwahaha... multiple choice, but a TON of them, would be my vote.

And I'd make it sneaky... like when DH took Logic 1... OH many, VERY specific... I remember one in particular... MC, four choices... two said MAY two said WILL (might vs always you see?) and then within those there was one each of the right theory and a wrong one... so it wasn't just knowing the info, but REALLY paying attention to the semantics too. DH was confused... didn't see it... until I pointed out the may vs will... he knew the answer, but just could not get his eyeballs wrapped around that for some reason. But that's the whole point with that class, you HAVE to know those details in order to do proofs properly.

But in this case it could be an excellent way to pay back a PITA student... and being MC not all that hard to grade... a a b c d d c a b b... MUCH easier than a drawn out project or essay questions...

Actually, knowing me, I'd grade it right in front of him and take serious satisfaction in making him think I was marking a LOT wrong.

Yup, this topic done got me riled.

MC SEEMS easier than an essay, and if the numbers are equal then I'd agree... but if you've got 100 MCs vs 1 essay... I'd take the essay.

Same goes with my school. The test is to be done the day described on the syllabus. If he wants to appeal your decision, he will and will probably win which means a major headache for you and a bad rep for not following the rules set forth by the university.

Good news for me! Thanks be for a decent chair.!!

I forwarded the entire -mail chain to my official dept chair and the prof emeritus who really runs things. (Most of us in academia know how this can work, the official chair is a terrible teacher who is good at minutia paperwork so she gets the job while he handles things like this.)

I said, I was willing to take my lumps in order to stand up to this kid. I knew he was playing me and I wanted to know what my options were.

Prof said, "We don't allow students to attempt to threaten, coerce, or bribe faculty, he behaved irresponsibly. Your syllabus clearly states that you reserve the right to make changes as you see fit. You are entitled to change the date of the final, you just have to use the week of finals for some "educational activity". I, personally would fail the little twerp, but you are soft hearted. At the very least make his educational activity one he won't soon forget. I'll go see ****** this afternoon and apprise her to send the kid to me if he dares to complain. Enjoy your Solstice Holiday."

Huge sigh!

I had talked it over with DH and was willing to face the music, when I read over the policy and while changing the date to the last week of class is really frowned upon there is wiggle room for us in the contract. This would be why I drive and hour and a half to teach here instead of at other schools where at any given moment I expected to be given a little paper hat and a name tag.

So, now to think of the project........

That is great!!! Glad it works out for you.

Good for you. So you get to give the kid a chance and still maintain your dignity and teach him a lesson too. Don't you just love it when the boss supports you?

Thats really good news!! I'm glad to see you got the support from the right people.

I hope you can teach him a little lesson....... too bad you couldn't anticipate what he studied, (if he did) and go the opposite direction. Or drop a hint to one of his buddies and then do the opposite... something to throw him off balance.

What is the subject (sorry if I missed if posted earlier)?
