Hopefully it can be improved. In CA, you now have to pay back all the benefits you receive and your limit on welfare is 5 years. Which still does not address putting uneducated people back into the non-existent work force.
Since when do they have to pay it back?
If you're not educated enough to even get a fast-food job, how are they expected to pay it back?
I dunno, my sister was on it for 20-some-odd years and has never been requested to pay it back. I know people whose kids had to go on it within the last five years for a couple of years (my friend's daughter was on it but she was going to school, and as soon as she graduated, she got a job and got off of it)... she graduated about 18 months ago and has never heard of it having to be paid back.
When did they start that out here, Debi?
I believe it was January 1, 2009 when they introduced the welfare to work program. However, they failed to address TRAINING someone how to go from welfare to work. Of course this does not apply to those who could care less and will obtain a new name to get new benefits....
As soon as someone with the same social security number is reported as having income in the state of CA, their wages are attached. I believe it is a double edged sword there. Teach them how to work, give em a job and then take their money. I don't know. I have very differing opinions. I am not sure attaching wages is effective.
