I think the welfare system should indeed be tossed out the window...save this country tons of wasted money. The system was designed to be a hand up...not a hand out. During the depression when times were hard, the system helped families make ends meet...it did ot support them!

I watched two women change the clothes of three children in the parking lot and swap them off to go inside for their food stamps. TICKED me off so I went in and found them... they were already with the lady at the food stamps window and I looked at the lady helping them and asked her point blank. Are you a complete moron or what? You do not recognize these kids from 5 minutes ago when they came in with another woman?

Death penalty...everyone is afforded the same right...the right to a jury of your peers. If you use that right and your peers sentence you to a death sentence....you should have 24 hours to file your appeal, if you do not win it, within 24 hours of that decision you should be executed. I am sick of paying taxes to feed, medicate and provide for criminals.

Oh there are plenty of things I would change...Congress would be fired...every single one of the flaming idiots in it, then on down the line....clean up the white house and the government.

For starters

#1 on my list might be that prisons should be completely self sufficient -- after setup, no tax dollars. Grow and make your own, make something that can be sold or traded for the few things that must be bought. Windmills or similar, or do without power. And so forth.

My story is IDENTICAL to yours!!! My dad's heart is at 10% function. They're trying to put him on a job training program...I wanted to strangle them when they suggested that...if he can't function because he can't breathe and the side effects of the medication, why are you trying to force him to work??? He put into the system for 35 years. I'm now paying his car insurance, his gas, groceries for 2 adults, etc. etc. etc. They want to take his cracker jack box trailer from him...he wanted to sell it to help me offset expenses....it's a disgrace what is going on. We don't even know what we're going to do about the $48,000 medical bill either.

I think you are all missing my actual point. So many people abuse the welfare system that it needs to be done away with. I'm not saying some people don't need aid, there are people who try and still need help. Fine. Let's put a system in place to help THEM. Not everyone just looking for a hand out.

Used to be a time a community took care of their own, not the government.

When was that?
The great depression where people lived in tent cities, and forced to work far below the cost of living?
Oh what about the industrial age? When the very rich thought the poor were poor because they were stupid and immoral? And forced them to work in dangerous conditions and live in squalor?
Or the colonization era of the US where if you couldn't work you starved to death, and if you weren't white you were enslaved or killed?
Or the dark ages......
