What Do You Think You'd Change?

I can't think of the name, but here we have a system that pays a daycare to keep their kids. They don't pay a cent. As long as they work. I like that. I think it's a good program. We also have what's called HUD housing. Also a good program, but could use a bit of reform there as well. Gives them a place to live rent free.

HUD is a federal program, and at least here in CA, it does NOT cover 100% of a family's rent. Nor does the Headstart daycare program cover 100% of the day care cost either. HUD's program is called Section 8 Housing for Families and it usually pays about 40% of the rental cost. No where near the 100%. Headstart programs are also a simple 8-5 program, so if a parent works different hours there are no options for them.

I have invested hundreds of hours investigating these programs on both sides: one to bust someone, and one to try to get some help. Don't get me started on CPS.....

Used to be a time a community took care of their own, not the government.

When was that?
The great depression where people lived in tent cities, and forced to work far below the cost of living?
Oh what about the industrial age? When the very rich thought the poor were poor because they were stupid and immoral? And forced them to work in dangerous conditions and live in squalor?
Or the colonization era of the US where if you couldn't work you starved to death, and if you weren't white you were enslaved or killed?
Or the dark ages......

Great Depression - The government is what screwed us up in the first place! The community STILL helped out, though, especially through charitable organizations. Then there was the government's WPA, CCC, etc., which on net destroyed jobs.

Industrial era - Nobody was forced. It's voluntary. The only "forced employment" I can think of is the draft, which is entirely governmental. And how the heck were they "forced" to live in squalor, when they CHOSE to move to the city?! Also, look up fellas like Rockefeller, Ford, and Carnegie. And then look up how much they contributed to charitable organizations. While you're at it, check out something else these guys provided - JOBS and AFFORDABLE PRODUCTS. Out of their greed, they did a heckuvalot of good for the working class. Once again, local communities provided support for those who could not find employment - if they weren't lazy turds who refused to work.

Colonial era - Wow. I mean, really, did you MEAN that? I find it REALLY difficult to believe. Because it ain't true. Again, if people were deserving, they were taken care of by family, church, or the local community. As for the enslaved-or-killed statement, that is a complete myth. Please explain the odd phenomenon of black slaveowners, as well as the large number of free black citizens in the South alone. Both are documented, indisputible historical facts which run completely contrary to your claim. And where on Earth did you get the "killed" part?! Sure, blacks got killed. So did whites, Asians, Indians, and others. The only genocide was when it came to the Indians, and that was (once again!) entirely on the part of the Federal government. It wasn't Joe American who forced the Cherokees onto the Trail of Tears, it was Andrew Jackson and his Federal thugs. It was the Army that massacred the Plains Indians, not the redneck in backwoods North Carolina.

The Dark Ages - Sure, people starved. There wasn't exactly super-advanced infrastructure or far-reaching charity organizations. But people still cared for each other as best they could, as did churches and monostaries (sp?).

Put simply, you seem to have bought into the comic-book version of history propogated by schools and Establishment historians. But the facts and simple logic run contrary to your claims. I beg you, please do some more research. Even the (YES, I am going to say it) politically correct version of history contradicts a significant portion of your claims.

It may not be THERE, but my cousin is with HUD, and they pay her rent. I think it's a limit though, as far as how much the rent can be, and anything higher they have to pay out of pocket. It may just be something here, but she is single with a child. She also pays nothing for daycare. I know this because of the various times she's bragged about it.

I think every town needs a public fighting ring. People could duke it out with refs and security and the rest of us could watch!

Hey there! Why would I put someone who makes me laugh on that list? It's mostly my welfare sucking neighbors who let their dogs drag an ENTIRE pigs head into someone's YARD.
