What Do You Think You'd Change?

X2! I got stuck in line at the grocery store a few weeks ago behind this one lady, and lemme tell you this story......

Here we are BARELY getting by with both of us working & we don't even have any kids at home! We're behind this lady who's laughing about getting ready to have some girlfriends over for a girls' movie night, and she buys popcorn and some lipton onion soup mix and sour cream to make dip and a couple different kinds of chips, some salsa, and I"m thinking how nice, what a fun idea! Then she whips it out... the EBT card! I wanted to say something but held my tongue.

She purchased sodas, cream (for making Kahlua and cream... she paid cash for the Kahlua), cookies, chips, dip, and all kinds of party goodies with food stamps. Here we're buying a bag of cheap oranges on sale and some ground turkey and a couple of other staples with our hard-earned cash cuz that's all we could afford at the time..... I wanted to scream. Then I wanted to wring her ugly little neck.

I think one of the things that needs to change is that you can only purchase REAL FOOD with food stamps.

What would I get rid of?

Generalizations about people
Racisits
Monsanto
People who think they are better than everyone else
The party system
Smog
Tofu
One person at work

I would also like to see a breathalizer as a way to start a car and not a key.

I do understand that, but what about people in the cities? They don't have room for a milk cow.

Community gardens. Everyone can get out there and work it together. My great grandfather always said we'd have been better off without welfare. "Some might have starved, everyone else would have gotten off their *sses and worked."

That does make sense.

I was thinking maybe they could earn the benefits of welfare by taking care of their cities, like operating street sweepers, picking up litter, etc. etc.

One of the main ways that a person winds up on welfare: Young, no job skills, and expecting a baby. Yes they can work until that child is born, but after that, a system that pays for $750 a month to the recipinet, well child care is about $400 a WEEK.

But won't they have parents/relatives/friends willing to take care of her and/or the baby?

And yet they keep popping them out. That brings me to another point. If you're on welfare I think it should be mandatory to be on birth control. No exceptions. Also required to pass a drug test. EVERY adult in the home should have to take and pass a drug test.

No honey. We work full time and she is school full time. We come home and she leaves for school. It is a vicious circle and I think it is too harsh of a judgement to lump all people on welfare into the "lazy" category.

I don't know about THERE. But HERE they have FREE child care for low income families. So that 400 a week doesn't even enter into the situation. I am not saying everyone on welfare is lazy, but a lot of them are. We'd be a lot better off without it.

Oh... I see. Thank you.
