What do you use to write dates on your eggs?

I use software.

If you can differentiate between eggs (ie: the FBCM went in today, all the blue eggs went in Sunday) then don't bother writing on them. Make a spreadsheet in excel, use a program (I have Brinsea's software) write it on the calender, or even good old fashioned pen and paper and keep track. If I can't tell them apart (I set Guinea eggs every 10 days in the summer) then I use pencil.

I worried about using sharpies but on the dark marans eggs you just can't see pencil. I haven't noticed any issues since using sharpie on them but when I can, I use pencil.

Kind of creeps me out to think about using a black marker pen on hatching eggs since its smells SO toxic.
I've always used pencil myself but did received some hatching eggs in the mail once
that were ID'ed with a black marker and they all hatched out fine.

I use one of the fine point sharpies and date mine on the fat end,which is visible when set correctly in my hatching trays.It works great,minimal ink and doesn't run or rub off with my misting like the washable types did.Since I have so many varieties of OEGB go in at one time,or if I have outside supplied eggs,I like to keep track of who did and didnt hatch.I've always used it unless I was selling eggs because some people dont like them marked all over.

A pencil, a gel-point pen, a Sharpie, a wax pencil. I haven't found anything yet that I could tell made any difference to the developing chick inside.

Use different colors with multiple breeds and flocks.

Pencil is fine on light eggs.
