What Do You Want Added To The BYC Forum & Site?

Glad I found the new site. I've been super busy the last 6 weeks and didn't realize all this was going on. The new site seems to be great so far! Pages load quickly, and it's easy to navigate. Nice job!

SandraChick , thank you! I know that is there, and I've used it too.
I guess what I was trying to say was if a column of info/links could remain on the left hand side, those who don't immediately refer to or even know to check the home page might see it right away.

This arose from my experience: since last night have been looking for how to euthanize a chick humanely. Searched the home page, no luck, read emergency threads, no luck. Tried the 'old board' for info, no luck...anything on topic too basic for me (i.e. 'snap neck'). I needed a how-to.
Later this morning I posted on emergencies a thread looking for help on this. While waiting for an answer, spent twenty minutes doing several searches on yahoo for information on the subject.
Finally found a site that clearly spelled out how to and several humane methods. (posted info in the thread I had started asking for help, perhaps it may help someone else in the future).

I realize that there are many newbies, myself included

, that when presented with a sudden problem, tend to post their question before looking for answers on the home page. (In this case, I did look, but there wasn't one) I believe, if nothing else, that this info in particular should be among reference/ links, that would help future newbies find answers fast.

Please know, everyone, that I find this site an incredible source of support and camraderie, and in no way did I mean to insult/offend with my suggestion. Even as it stands right now, it is a fabulous site. I realize the creation and implementation of this entire forum must be an amazing amount of work by very talented and knowledgable people, and I am very, very, grateful to them for it all! Thank you everyone!!

Really quick: mudhen, regarding the menu to the left side of the forum. That's something I've thought about often. I try to balance our quick access to info while maintaining a very easy to use / read forum.

A compromise may be a horizontal menu at the very top of the forum that has all the menus that are on the left side of the main BYC site. What do people think?

I am part of another forum (About.com) where we can post a reply directly back to one person (but it still shows up in the thread, too). This is useful because you can directly address one person and their comment, while still including others in the discussion. The other forum also gives you the option to see "replies to me" and you can (with one easy click) access all the threads you have posted in and gotten replies to without having to subscribe or hunt through topics.
You can also see "popular threads," "most recently posted," etc.
I hope that desciption makes sense.

would it be of any interest/use to put a link to a map of where we each are in the social section? Something like this:

Just for fun, and each member can add themselves or not, and we can see how far and wide BYC is spread.
